Visit the palace of King Minos, the plateau of Lassithi, the cave where Zeus was born, Kera’s orthodox monastery,traditional villages, unique landscapes!
We are going to visit many important and different places in eastern Crete.
Our first stop is at the most important archaeological site in Crete, the famous Minoan Palace of Knossos, the economic, political and social centre of Minoan civilization and the seat of the wise king Minos.
We will learn the history of this magnificent place and the thrilling legends, such as the Labyrinth with the Minotaur.
In a short stop at the Aposelemi dam, we will admire the beauty of the landscape and we will take unique photos of the abandoned half-submerged village in the waters of the artificial lake.
Near the village of Kera, in Kardiotissas Monastery, run by nuns, we will admire the paintings, the Byzantine icons and the wondrous image of the Virgin Mary; a peaceful and powerful place with a magnificent view.
Lasithi Plateau is one of the few areas in the Mediterranean with permanent inhabitants at an altitude of over 800 meters, we will see the farmers working on the land and we will admire up close the remaining windmills.
In one of the 18 small villages of the plateau and in a traditional tavern, we will stop for a delicious and inexpensive meal from the Cretan cuisine. (Lunch is not included in the price of the excursion)
In Psychro Village, we will visit the “ancient Bethlehem”, the cave where Zeus, the father of gods was born. This impressive cave rich in stalactites and stalagmites is located at an altitude of 1025 meters with a unique view to the plateau.
